Children's announces clinical collaboration with Floating
After months of discussion, Children's Hospital Boston has announced an innovative partnership with Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts-New England Medical Center that will enable the hospitals to work collaboratively to expand access to the highest quality pediatric care.
"Children's mission is to improve the health of children—be it through clinical care, research or training doctors," says President and CEO James Mandell, MD. "Collaboration between the medical staffs of our two hospitals will lead to better care and the development of improved protocols and practices. In the end, children will benefit and our mission will be advanced."
There are several successful clinical collaborations already in place, including a relationship in Critical Care, where Children's intensive care physicians cover the intensive care unit at the Floating, and in Neurology, where Children's neurologists provide coverage and oversee the Pediatric Neurology training program at the Floating. Children's will also continue to provide specialized transport services to Floating patients where appropriate. Additional collaborations are planned for Cardiology and Gastroenterology.
"Many thanks to the medical and administrative leaders who spent countless hours of overtime coming to the best solution for Children's," says Chief Operating Officer Sandra Fenwick. "Especially the Clinical Strategy Committee for NEMC discussions, including Drs. James Lock, Alan Retik, James Kasser, Paul Hickey, David Fulton and Gary Fleisher. I'd also like to thank Dr. Joe Volpe, who not only showed leadership early on but also provided direct coverage for Floating."
Children's expects that new and exciting collaborations with the Floating will unfold in the coming months.
